X5 set a high bar for 360 cameras. X6 clears it in almost every direction, effectively replacing three cameras with one. Bigger sensors, an AI editor that works while the camera charges, native Dolby Vision, 10-bit and I-log support, longer battery life, and more. If you shoot travel, adventure, or everyday life, here is exactly what changed and whether it is worth the upgrade.

The Six Upgrades That Matter Most

Bigger Sensors, Huge Leaps in Image Quality

X5 already led on low light. X6 moves to dual 1/1.1" square sensors for full 1-inch 360 imaging: 33% more sensor area and around four times the light intake per frame. Backlit scenes, night rides, and high-contrast landscapes all keep detail that X5 would have lost. This is the single biggest reason to upgrade.

Three Cameras Become One

X5 shoots 360 and single-lens. X6 turns that into a true 3-in-1 system: full 360 at 8K50fps, subject tracking into clean flat 4K through InstaFrame 2.0, or single-lens flat video at up to 5K60fps or 4K120fps. One camera now does the job of a 360 rig, a tracking gimbal, and an action cam.

AI Editing Goes From Helpful to Hands-Off

X5 could build highlight reels. X6 removes the work entirely. AI Director analyzes and edits your footage while the camera charges, then pushes finished clips to the app. Auto Edit 2.0 turns one clip or many into a complete edit with framing, movement, cuts, music, and transitions in a single tap. It runs on Insta360’s own 360 AI multimodal model, Insta360 PanoMind, trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across 30-plus scenarios.

Native Dolby Vision and DaVinci Resolve Open the Door to Pro Work

X6 is the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision with 10-bit color. Add I-Log capture and X6 fits a professional color pipeline that X5 could not reach.

Longer Battery, Faster Charge, Colder Conditions

The new 2600mAh Xtreme Battery records 140 minutes at 8K30fps, 51% longer than X5. It fast charges from empty to 80% in 24 minutes and stays reliable down to -20°C / -4°F. Star-Ridge cooling keeps sustained 8K shooting smooth, an edge X5 users will notice on long takes.

Built-In Storage and a Tougher, Cheaper Lens

X6 adds 47GB of usable built-in storage, so you can shoot even with no SD card in the camera, something X5 cannot do. Replaceable Lens 2.0 is five times more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace than the first-generation lens on X5.

Should You Upgrade From X5?

Upgrade if you're looking for the absolute peak in image quality, a 3-in-1 shooting system, with the latest and greated in hands-off AI editing. Those are the areas where X6 pulls clearly ahead. Riders, night shooters, and anyone editing at volume will feel the difference right away.

If you bought X5 recently and mostly shoot in good light with light editing, X5 still holds up well. The core 360 experience, replaceable lenses, and FlowState Stabilization carry over. X6 is the upgrade for people who want the ceiling raised, not a fix for something broken.

Pricing and Availability

X6 offers huge gains over the last generation of 360 camera, and the best part? It's available right now! Check it out over on the Official Insta360 Store, Amazon, or other authorized retailers.
