The Insta360 GO series is the pinnacle of the pocket camera world, combining high-quality capture with unbeatable portability. Last year's GO 3S is a fun and flexible camera, designed for the most convenient on-the-go shooting; now, with GO Ultra, we're focusing instead on power and performance. While this new camera is still only 53g and the size of a smartwatch, each camera offers a distinct set of advantages, tailored for different types of creators.
GO Ultra and GO 3S are part of the same pocket camera family, so both include a built-in magnetic base that allows for capturing POVs from anywhere, among other similarities.
But when viewed head-to-head on a purely technical level, it's clear that they branch off in two very different ways.

53g of Pure 4K Power

Insta360 GO Ultra improves on GO 3S's tech with a considerably larger 1/1.28" sensor, a smaller and more advanced 5nm AI chip, and the introduction of an all-new Ambient Light Sensor. Combined, this allows for over 200% more light to be captured with real-time color balancing, allowing for more vibrant, true-to-life images, which are then processed faster and with more detail by the AI chip. If you like to get up close and personal, you can opt to get the GO Ultra Micro Lens Kit as well, which features a set of four ultra-clear lenses with different focal distances to cover all your shooting needs.
This results in crisper, smoother 4K60fps video and 50MP photos, and with the addition of the PureVideo and PureShot modes to the GO series, low-light capture is greatly improved. When shooting at night or in areas with harsh, inconsistent lighting, the image will be brighter and with reduced visual noise.
There's also the significant increase in battery life: 70 minutes run time on a single charge with the Standalone Camera is almost double that of GO 3S, and when combined with the Action Pod, GO Ultra can shoot for 200 minutes, which is an hour longer to create with. Not only that, but GO Ultra has a new fast charging system, which can take the Standalone Camera from empty to 80% power in only 12 minutes.
As for storage, GO Ultra replaces the internal 64GB or 128GB options of GO 3S with microSD card functionality. With support for up to 2TB, you can record high-quality 4K footage for longer than before and, when the card is full, swap it out in seconds for another.
39g of Flexible 4K Fun

While the above enhancements make GO Ultra the most powerful pocket camera in the GO series, GO 3S is still a great gateway into the GO series.
Priced at US$355.99, GO 3S is the preferred choice for beginners. The simple one-tap method of recording and extra-lightweight 39g frame are perfect for those who want to try out or experiment with hands-free POV shooting before investing in more powerful hardware.
Likewise, users for whom image quality is not their key concern will find GO 3S more than suits their requirements. The camera can capture up to 4K30fps and also has built-in magnetic mounting functionality, so it can be used for quickly snapping shots for social media or as an alternative to filming on a smartphone.
But this isn't an either/or situation; the GO 3S Standalone Camera isn't only lighter than GO Ultra, it's smaller too, and thumb-shaped rather than square. This allows it to be used alongside GO Ultra (or other Insta360 products) as it can be squeezed or mounted into locations no other camera can reach.
Built for the Moment
As Insta360 evolves, so do the cameras. The GO series, which was originally all about compact size and multi-angle shooting, is now branching in different directions. If you're a creator who wants premium footage from a pocket camera, GO Ultra is the better choice, but if you want a handy way to capture the everyday, GO 3S is the camera for you.
Insta360 GO Ultra is available now at the Insta360 Store and authorized retailers.
