Spend five minutes scrolling through Jett Carter's Instagram and you'll quickly understand why people keep following. For one, the kid can ride—but mostly, it's the voice inside the helmet.

Jett, better known as Lil Danger, already has more than 160,000 followers watching him rip around dirt tracks on a bike that looks almost as big as he is. His helmet wobbles, the engine buzzes, and you hear a running commentary of a four-year-old figuring things out in real time.

Sometimes he's focused on the race. Sometimes he's distracted by something completely unrelated. Either way, people can't stop watching.

Born into the bike life

None of this started as a plan to build a following online. At first, the videos were simply a way for the family to document Jett's early rides and keep those memories for themselves.

Riding, though, had always been part of the family. Jett's dad, Jake, grew up around motorcycles himself. He stepped away from the sport for a while when life pulled him in other directions, but eventually found his way back years later. By the time Jett came along, bikes were already part of everyday life, so it wasn't particularly surprising when he started showing interest almost immediately.

Jett first climbed onto a motorbike when he was barely a year old. Within another year, he'd graduated to dirt bikes. The more he rode, the clearer it became that this wasn't just a passing phase.

Now, most mornings start the same way: Can we go ride?

A weekend at Glen Helen

Race weekends usually start the same way for the Carter family: the bikes get loaded, gear bags are stacked in the camper, and by Friday afternoon, they're on the road heading to one of many races.

This particular weekend takes them to Glen Helen Raceway, one of the most recognizable motocross tracks in the world and home to one of the biggest youth races of the year. Riders and families come from all over the country, filling the paddock with trailers, pit tents, and bikes buzzing around.

Somewhere in the middle of that noise and dust is Jett. This weekend is his first AMA race, and while he's technically too young to compete, after watching him ride, the organizers decided to bend the rules a little.

His helmet looks huge, his bike looks tiny, but when the gate drops, he takes off across the track like he's been doing this forever. If he crashes, he simply picks the bike up and rides on. A few minutes later he's back in the pits like nothing happened, mostly excited about blowing bubbles.

The Insta360 perspective

Part of what makes Jett's videos so fun to watch is the perspective.

Jake mounts an Insta360 X5 on the front fender or handlebars, capturing both the track ahead and Jett riding. The result is instantly recognizable: the small bike charging forward while a tiny rider in his huge helmet bounces along in the foreground. You could call it the bobble-head angle.

What really surprises riders, though, is how smooth the footage looks.

"We ride some rough tracks, and these little bikes basically have no suspension," Jake says. "But when you watch the footage, it looks like we're riding on pillows... The angle from the bars shows him riding, and you can see he's moving a lot, but the bike stays steady, and that's cause the camera is so good."

Then, they hook it up to the mic inside Jett's helmet to hear everything he's saying. Every comment, song or random thought that pops into his head during a ride makes it to the video, creating a hilarious window into the mind of a four-year-old racer.

Going all in

At some point, motocross became more than just a weekend hobby for Jett. The family eventually moved so they could build their own dirt track at home. Jake now drives about an hour to work every day, but he says it's an easy trade.

"As a parent, you worry about safety," he says. "But finding something you love and connect with—you can't beat it."

Jett already talks about earning his pro license one day. That future is still a long way off, but Jake knows he'll be there for it if it happens.

"If he wants to go all in, he's got myself and mom's support 100 percent. He knows I'll always be with him at the gate."

In the meantime, there are plenty more rides ahead—more weekends at the track, more helmet commentary, and probably a lot more people discovering that the coolest rider in the paddock might also be the smallest.
