One of the most-liked Instagram posts of all time wasn't filmed by a celebrity, athlete, or musician. It was filmed by a two-and-a-half-year-old.
Last year, a simple POV video shot on Insta360 GO 3S unexpectedly exploded online. The now-viral "Toddler Titan" video has amassed more than 47 million likes by showing viewers something most of us haven't experienced in decades: the world through a child's eyes.
Curious about the family behind one of Instagram's most-loved videos, we traveled to meet star Mengmeng and spent a few days with her family, learning how these videos began and how an ordinary family unexpectedly created one of the internet's biggest viral moments.
An Unexpected Star
Like many parents, Mengmeng's mom and dad began recording and sharing moments from her daily life shortly after she was born. More than anything, the videos were intended to preserve memories from her early years for Mengmeng to look back on in the future.
They never imagined those little moments would eventually be watched by millions of people around the world.
"When we were young, we didn't have so many recordings or photos. Now we can film a bit, and we have something to look back on in the future... We honestly never expected it to become so popular!"
Yet behind the likes and views was a surprisingly simple question.
"We used to record her from conventional angles, but we often wondered: from less than a meter high, what does the world look like through her eyes? And what expressions show on her face as she watches the world?"
That question changed how they filmed. Rather than recording Mengmeng from their perspective, they wanted to see the world from hers.
Life at 80 Centimeters
To do this, they turned to the Insta360 GO Series. Small and lightweight enough to be worn comfortably without getting in the way, GO 3S and GO Ultra allowed Mengmeng's parents to capture the world from her point of view as she explored, played and discovered new things.
Spending time with the family, one thing quickly became obvious: none of the videos are staged. In fact, Mengmeng often forgets she's even wearing the camera. She simply runs toward whatever catches her attention—playgrounds, puddles, flowers or her parents.
For many viewers, the perspective felt strangely nostalgic. The videos reminded people what the world once felt like before adulthood introduced routines, responsibilities, and bills.
Before The World Makes Sense
What began as a family time capsule soon evolved into one of the internet's biggest success stories. Part of that success undoubtedly comes from Mengmeng herself. Curious, energetic and full of personality, she approaches every day with the kind of enthusiasm only a toddler can.
"We've been using the GO Series for about a year, capturing how Mengmeng sees the world before she starts seeing it from an adult perspective, where everything has to make sense. Until that time, I'll keep recording, preserving these moments of innocence and joy."
Today, Mengmeng's videos rank among the most-liked Instagram posts of all time. But for her parents, these videos remain something much simpler: memories of childhood they'll be able to look back on for years to come.
